If you suffer from a poor complexion weighed down with blotchy skin, acne, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation, it can unpleasantly affect your social and professional relationships. All of these issues can be eliminated with a series of chemical peel procedures.

Chemical Peels offered at Elements Wellness and Medispa, exfoliate the uppermost layers of the skin minimizing uneven tone and texture. As the best spa in Toronto, our team of medical specialists will make sure your skin achieves best results.

What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel involves the application of chemical solution to the skin following medical protocol, which produces a controlled superficial wound to the tissues. The desired depth of the superficial wound is dependent upon the condition to be treated. After the chemical peel procedure, the skin begins to regenerate.

Different types of chemical peels

At Elements Wellness and Medispa, our experienced professional team of medical aestheticians offer a variety of chemical peels to suit every patient’s needs.

Lactic Peels

Very mild chemical peels derived from milk with little to no downtime. Because lactic acid is a natural human metabolite, there is less chance of an allergic reaction with this type of chemical peel.
Lactic peels are a good choice for first-time peel users or for those with sensitive skin. Dry or oily skin types can also use this peel and achieve excellent results.

Glycolic Peels

Glycolic peels help brighten up the skin and reduce the look of sunspots, acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles. This type of chemical peel is a gentle peel version, which involves the use of alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA) to help exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin.

Immediately following treatment, your skin will appear a little red and continue to flake for a few days. Once all skin cells have peeled off, you will enjoy smoother, younger-looking skin.

Salicylic Peels

Salicylic peels are great for treating clogged pores and acne. Salicylic peels can be quite strong and penetrating. They are most suitable for people with oily, acne-prone skin. Salicylic chemical peels are great for clearing out mild skin bumps, but if your acne is inflamed and/or severe, there are no guarantees that getting a series of peel treatments will clear your skin. How well salicylic acid peels treat acne will ultimately depend on how your skin reacts. Salicylic peels can be performed once every 3 weeks. However, some people can tolerate getting them every 10-14days.

Jessner Peel

Jessner peel is a medium chemical peel, the depth of which is controlled by the number of layers you use. This is a very safe peel and is suitable for all skin types, especially those with oily or acne prone skin. Jessner peel is a combination of 14% Salicylic acid, 14% Resorcinol, and 14% Lactic acid. The combination of these three acids helps recover lost skin tone, texture and luminosity. Your skin will appear red right after the treatment, however the redness will subside the next day. Peeling will begin on the third day after the procedure and will last 4-5 days.

Contraindications

  • Pregnant women and women who are breastfeeding
  • Active herpes lesions
  • Open wounds
  • History of abnormal scarring
  • Patients on Accutane

Post care

The skin is especially sensitive after a chemical peel. It is essential to avoid direct contact with the sun during and after the healing process. The skin may remain sun sensitive for some time after the peel, therefore our professional medical team recommends using sunblock on a daily basis.

For one week after the chemical peel patients should avoid using any active ingredients, which can irritate the skin.

If you begin to experience unusual discomfort after the procedure, contact our medical aesthetician for an additional consultation. At Elements Wellness and Medispa our team of highly talented and qualified medical aestheticians have years of hands-on experience. Safety is our top priority. That’s why we offer a complimentary consultations to identify which treatment is right for you, your needs and your body.
