For those with hectic work schedules who prefer the nonsurgical route for its minimal downtime and (in most cases) immediate results, dermal fillers do a fantastic job of addressing pesky concerns, especially when it comes to the nose! Let’s talk about the nonsurgical rhinoplasty, or nose job.
Dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, a water-based substance found naturally in our joints, eyes and skin. Toronto’s Elements Spa, directed by board-certified cosmetic plastic surgeon Dr. Adibfar, uses dermal fillers to help patients achieve subtle results while improving the projection and/or profile of the nose without going under the knife. Dermal fillers deliver a safe and predictable result that is natural looking and proportioned when administered accurately.
The procedure begins by applying a topical numbing anesthetic cream to the nose to allow painless entry of the needle and cannula. After that, the procedure itself can take anywhere between 5-10 minutes to complete in the office! Dr. Adibfar and his qualified, medically-trained staff then inject specific areas of the nose using a tiny syringe to administer the filler. The filler is used to shape and straighten the nose, as well can be utilized to make the nose higher, wider, or display more projection. It can also be used to turn the tip of a slightly slopped nose upward.
By injecting conservatively, Dr. Adibfar is able to accurately create more symmetry and lessen the appearance of any bumps while allowing for a smoother bridge. It’s important to note here that because it’s a nonsurgical rhinoplasty, Dr. Adibfar uses the patient’s nose as a framework to improve upon, inevitably resulting in a natural-looking profile. For patients with a slight bump in their nose, dermal filler will be injected just above and below the bump (in specific proportions) to fill the areas that make the bump appear less prominent. When the areas are filled, the bump exists on a straighter line following the nose from top to bottom. Dr. Adibfar’s keen aesthetic eye allows him to accurately assess and balance the nose with the patient’s chin for a more attractive profile. After injecting, Dr. Adibfar uses his hands to safely and softly mold the dermal filler into place in order for it to adhere to its position.
The nonsurgical rhinoplasty is ideal for those seeking small tweaks that provide an immediate impact. The procedure itself can take anywhere from 5-10 minutes to complete (excluding the numbing anesthetic) with results that are immediately noticeable. Patients are always pleased to see that their features are more defined and that the angles of their nose are more uniform.
Some patients may notice their nose to be mildly swollen or tender after the procedure. This is normal and easily concealed with makeup while using arnica cream to help any bruising. Depending on the patient and his/her lifestyle, the dermal filler can last anywhere between 6-9 months. Patients will also be happy to hear that these dermal fillers are reversible should they wish to return to their nose’s natural shape and profile.
There are risks to any procedure, including the use of dermal fillers when injected by inexperienced administrators. Risks can include blindness and blocked blood supply to the nose should the injector insert into any blood vessels. There are also many fraudulent dermal fillers sold on the market so you want to make sure that you’re going to a facility that’s highly credible. Although these cases are rare, patients should know the risks and heed caution when choosing a facility and injector.
